 This is Melody Garnot. She's the 'hottest'
new jazz singer on the Planet.There's no doubting her talent and looks, and she has a captivating story. When a major record company heard her demo CD and her story, they spent a fortune making sure she got plenty of publicity. It worked here in Australia, where she was completely unknown. We heard her on radio, watched her on TV and read feature articles about her. I read about her and went to her packed concert. She's going to be a big star, but sometimes life can be unfair, if you are talented, but don't get the breaks. Take Jo Jo Smith.  Jo Jo is a brilliant soul singer, songwriter,
guitarist and drummer. She is a beautiful
person and when I caught her performance
recently she had the crowd screaming for
more.Jo has been a professional singer for 40 years. But there's no way she would fill a concert hall like Melody Garnot did last week. You see Jo Jo isn't young and beautiful, she doesn't have a big record company spending millions of dollars to promote her; she grinds out a living. She's happy, but unlike Melody, she doesn't fly first class, or stay in swanky hotels, but she does has extraordinary talent. She deserves to be recognised and enjoy the trappings of success. People love her story; it's captivating because as a teenager she almost died in a horrific car crash. She had years of pain; even now she had difficulty walking. She needs to wear sun glasses to protect her light sensitive eyes. During her rrecuperation, Doctors suggested she sing to reconnect her neural pathways. She found she had a talent and recorded a 'demo'. A record company heard it, just last year. Now this talented, beautiful 24 year old with a great story is selling out concerts throughout the world and her record company ensure that publicity follows her wherever she goes. They're the breaks. |
