| Actioning Dreams. How it's done |

Australia's Bob Sedergreen is one of the world's best pianists, but that's not his REAL talent. He makes musical dreams come true. ![]() Bob is a genius blues and jazz player who LOVES music - what it can do for people - listeners and performers. The roly poly good humoured pianist runs classes for people who have a dream to sing in a jazz club. Few will go beyond this once in a lifetime opportunity, but that's unimportant. They each have a dream. They have the courage to step out of their comfort zone and into the bright lights. They have taken action to make their dream of singing in a jazz club come true. Bob is their mentor. We all should be so fortunate. One cold night recently, I attended a singer's 'coming out' session at Melbourne's Paris Cat. It was standing room only. A buzzing crowd waited in the dimly lit shoe- box size venue. It was a life-affirming experience. Here's why. None of the singers performed 'easy' jazz numbers. Many of the songs were eclectic. You could feel the nerves on those first bars and stretches on high notes. But the audience generated so much support and love that you could see each performer 'grow' before your eyes, especially with Bob's encouragement and his trio's magnificent playing. My singer, coffee-cafe-star friend, with her economically sized ears, and car named Neville, also enjoyed the session. We all need to step out from time to time and follow a dream, before it's too late. Stretch and discomfort expands us and can help us enjoy those precious moments in the 'spotlight' of our own life. It also helps to have someone to support you on your dream quest. By the way, on that cold Sunday night at Paris Cat, a real singer performed. She sang a human rights jazz number. It was mesmerising, but as good as the song was, her real talent was off stage when her natural humour and life observations came out in conversation. It was an hilarious comedy routine right then and there. She's a natural. Sadly, this singer/comedienne doesn't realise the great natural talent she has, not just yet anyway. But the spotlight is warming up and waiting for her, when she realises her gift. |
